This guide includes step-by-step instructions on how to clean boot Windows 10. The clean boot technique helps you locate the application or services causing the problem. You normally conduct this diagnostic test when Non-Microsoft products cause program conflicts. By loading only important files and programs, Clean Boot helps to start an operating system quickly. As such, upon restart, only the Microsoft services are initially made to run.

How to perform a clean boot in Windows 10

In Windows 10 the steps below can help you clean the boot. Also we have linked two video of clean booting process below.

Step #1
Press Win+R keys to open the Run command window

Step #2
Now type msconfig & press the OK button. This will open a System Configuration window.

In the System Configuration window under the General tab, click on the Selective startup radio button.

Just uncheck the Load startup items checkbox.

Next, click on the Services tab.

Step #6
On the bottom-left of the Services tab, select the Hide all Microsoft services checkbox. Then click on Disable all button.

1. Select Hide all Microsoft services
2. Click on Disable all

Note: Make sure you first click on Hide all Microsoft services before you click on Disable all button. You don’t want to unintentionally disable any important Microsoft services.

Now click on the Startup tab, then click on Open Task Manager.

On Task Manager’s Startup tab, disable all the listed items. Right-click on each of them and click on Disable. Close the task manager once all listed items are disabled.

Then on System Configuration Window‘s startup tab, click on the OK button & restart your system.

After restarting, your computer will boot in a clean boot environment.

After you have completed your troubleshooting process, restore your system by doing the following:

Press Win+R keys to open Run command window

Now type msconfig & press the OK button. This will open a System Configuration window.

In the System Configuration window under the General tab, click on the Normal startup radio button.

Next, click on the Services tab.

On the bottom-left of the Services tab, uncheck the Hide all Microsoft services checkbox. Then click on Enable all button.

Now click on the Startup tab, then click on Open Task Manager.

Step #8
On Task Manager’s Startup tab, enable all the startup program which you disabled previously. Right-click on each of them and click on Enable. Close the task manager once all listed items are Enabled.

Step #9
Then on System Configuration Window‘s startup tab, click on the OK button & restart your system.

Note: Make sure all Microsoft services are enabled, and also all programs in the Task Manager’s Startup tab, or you may face some issues. Some of the operating system functions and programs not working properly.
