So you are trying to figure out how to connect PS4 controller (also know as DualShock 4 controller) with your console? Don’t worry, in this article we will explain the process to connect the PS4 controller via Bluetooth wirelessly.
Only controllers that are made explicitly for PS4 can be synced, and also you can’t sync PS2 or PS2 controller with a PS4 console as they do not support features required by the PS4 games. Nevertheless, you can still use a PS4 controller (DualShock 4)with the PS3 console.
How to connect PS4 controller to a PS4 console
Particularly for the first time, you would need a USB cable to synchronize a controller with the console. To connect the DualShock 4 controller to the console, you can use any Micro USB Cable (Android Micro USB cable works). And even though the console has only 2 USB ports, upto 4 controllers can be connected per account.
Before you activate the PS4 console, connect a small end of the USB cable to the port at the controller’s top. Then connect the other end to the front USB port of the console.
After that, press the power button of the console to activate your PS4. Then the plugged controller should be automatically detected and allocated to the first player slot available.
Now press on the PS button in the controller’s center to see the login screen in which you can select or create one player account.
Note: You can easily activate the PS4 console using the PS button on the PS4 controller. Just make sure the controller is charged.
How to Pair Additional PS4 Controllers Wirelessly
After at least one controller has been synced, you can connect additional controllers wirelessly. Follow the steps below to do that:
Using your synced controller, select the Settings option in the icon line above the home menu of PS4, which is represented by a briefcase icon.
Now go to the Settings. Then select Devices and after that select Bluetooth Devices. A list of devices currently synchronized to your console should be visible on the screen.
To synchronize to the additional PS4 controller, hold down the PS button and the Share button on that other controller for around 5 seconds together.
Use the first synced controller to select that new controller when it appears in the Bluetooth devices list. It will then sync the new controller with your PS4.
How to Unpair a PS4 Controller
Switch OFF the controller that you want to disconnect or unpair from your PS4 console.
Switch ON your console using another synced PS4 controller. Now from the PS4 home screen go to the Settings. Then select Devices and after that select Bluetooth Devices.
A list of devices currently synchronized to your console should be visible on the screen. Then select the controller which you wish to disconnect or unpair from your PS4 console.
How to Charge Your PS4 Controller?
With the controller plugged into the PS4 console, it will keep charging its internal battery. When your PS4 console is in the rest mode and this state if the controller stays plugged, the controller’s charging will continue, and while the color of the light will change to yellow. If your controller is running low power, the light will also flash yellow, and the on-screen message will pop-up on the screen asking you to connect it to the console.
Once the controller’s charging is completed, its light will glow in different colors based on controller allocation.
-> For Player 1, the color will be Blue
-> For Player 2, the color will be Red
-> For Player 3, the color will be Green
-> For Player 4, the color will be Pink
How long does it take to charge your ps4 controller?
When there is no remaining charge on the battery, it takes approximately 2 hours to charge the controller.
How to troubleshoot PS4 Wireless Connectivity Problems
When you press the PS button if your controller doesn’t turn ON, connect it to the PS4 console to make sure it’s charged. Sometimes, if the cable is defective or there is damage to the internal battery, the light bar will not lit up. Look for another micro USB cable if it is a damaged cable issue.
When the controller is fully charged and still can’t wirelessly connect to the console, the issue is either with your controller’s Bluetooth connection or your console. The defective controller is to blame if your other PS4 controllers are functioning wirelessly. However, you can still connect via USB and the controller is again ready to play.
Just reset it if you are unable to connect a DualShock 4 controller with your PS4 console.
